PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide plated steel having high corrosion resistance and used as material for e.g. buildings, shore protection works, fishing nets and fences that are used in outdoor exposure, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION: In this highly corrosion resistant plated steel, a plated layer having the average composition of, by mass, 4 to 20% Al, 0.8 to 5% Mg and <=2% Fe, and the balance Zn and having a solidified structure of columnar crystals is provided, and also, the boundary of the plated layer-ferrite is provided with an alloy layer with a thickness of <=20μm containing <=25% Fe, <=30% Al and <=5% Mg, and the balance Zn, and the production method is disclosed.
