The invention is related to a hairy sheet generating unit (1), in particular a roller (6) with matrix openings (7) on the surface of the hairy sheet generating unit (1), connected to canals (21) that extend into the hairy sheet generating unit (1), to produce a three-dimensional pattern that is the inverse of the matrix openings (7) and their canals (21), by penetration of a moldable thermoplastic material (3) through the matrix openings (7) into the canals (21). At least part of the matrix openings (7) and canals (21) being connected to an ejection device to push thermoplastic material (3) out of the matrix openings (7).
