A method for securing a wheel bearing onto a threaded shaft has a cup shaped nut (3) threaded onto the end of the threaded shaft to press onto the bearing (2). The base of the nut has a central hole which aligns with a tapped hole into the centre of the shaft, to take a securing bolt (7). The bolt and tapped hole have an opposite thread to the nut to prevent premature loosening of the mounting even under heavy stresses. The whole fitting is protected by a snap fastening cover.
