The device has an arrangement for expanding the laser beam to be eliminated and absorbers for eliminating the expanded laser beam. An expansion prism body has a first surface having an aperture with a peak facing a second, opposing surface so that laser beams incident on the essentially perpendicularly on the second surface are subject to total internal reflection at the boundary between the prism body and the aperture. The device is especially for high power lasers with a mean power of more than 500 Watts and has an arrangement for expanding the laser beam to be eliminated and absorbers for eliminating the expanded laser beam. An expansion prism body (2) has a first surface with an aperture (11) with a peak facing a second, opposing surface so that laser beams incident on the essentially perpendicularly on the second surface are subject to total internal reflection at the boundary (14) between the prism body and the aperture.
