An electronic start and stop unit (8) automatically switches off the internal combustion engine (2) when the engine is not needed for power generation. Immediately after the engine is switched off, a lubricant pump (6) is automatically actuated by an electric motor (4) to lubricate certain components of the engine. An Independent claim is also included for a device used in starting and stopping vehicle operations.
