A disk drive device (A) which reads medium identification information specifically retained by an MO disk (B) when the MO disk (B) is loaded, reads DMA information (B2) listing defective addresses for storing into a RAM (12), and transfers data between the MO disk (B) and the host (C) while performing address-translation with reference to the DMA information (B2), wherein the CPU (11) decides, when the MO disk (B) is loaded, whether or not medium identification information read at the loading are identical with the preceding medium identification information. Only when they are not identical, the CPU (11) has the device read the DMA information (B2) at a current time and replace the DMA information (B2) with the preceding DMA information remaining in a DMA information storing area (12D) in the RAM (12).
