<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ATM communication system that can enhance transmission efficiency, even when short packets able to be furthermore multiplexed do not exist in a VCC of the same channel, in the case that an idle area exists in a cell payload of an ATM cell. SOLUTION: When short packet of the same virtual channel connection (VCC) multiplexed on a cell payload no longer exists there and an idle area exists in the cell payload, a cell payload assemble means 109-1 of an ATM cell transmitter 102 multiplexes short packets, to which an identifier of other virtual channel connections whose size is less than the size of the idle area is given to the idle area and transmits the short packets. A short packet disassembly means 113-1 in an ATM cell receiver 103 disassembles the short packets from the received cells, and an information recovery means 114-1 collects the disassembled short packets by the same identifier that are given in units of the short packets to recover information.</p> |
