PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polybenzazole fiber having a specific fiber fine structure being a dense fiber surface widely useful as an industrial material which has not been conventionally obtained. SOLUTION: This polybenzazole fiber has <=20 nm average square roughness of fiber surface, <=1.3 degree of crystal orientation angle of fiber surface, <=0.6% equilibrium moisture regain and excellent abrasion resistance.
