Process for operating a fuel cell system recycles water contained in the moist exhaust air stream. The water is removed by absorption and then released by desorption and fed at least partially back into the fuel cell system. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell system having a device for recycling the water contained in the moist exhaust air stream.
