One or more microbeams derived from a corresponding number of Vertical Cavit y Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs) (61) are used to manipulate and to transpor t inorganic and organic objects (62). The optical tweezing apparatus (6) and method is compact size, and suitable to manipulate multiple objects (62) in an array concurrently, and in parallel.
