PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block parallel decoding algorithm to perform iterative decoding for various codes and to provide a decoder architecture corresponding to the algorithm. SOLUTION: The block parallel decoding algorithm and the decoder architecture corresponding to the algorithm employ a set of interconnected processing nodes configured in the form of a probability dependent graph. The probability dependent graph is at least partially characterized by codes used to code blocks each consisting of bits or symbols and the processing node performs a block parallel decoding process for the blocks consisting of bits or symbols to be decoded. As the probability dependent graph, a two-node type probability dependency graph may be used where e.g. a set of N variable nodes and a set of T inspection nodes are included and one of the N variable nodes relates to N bits or symbols in a given block to be decoded.
