Apparatus for recovering aromatic materials from fermentation gases comprises a condenser (2) arranged in the flow direction of the gases to condense the gases having a higher dew and/or melting point,and a second condenser (3) for condensing the required aromatic materials having a lower dew and/or melting point. Apparatus for recovering aromatic materials from fermentation gases comprises a first condenser (2) arranged in the flow direction of the gases to condense the gases having a higher dew and/or melting point, and a second condenser (3) for condensing the required aromatic materials having a lower dew and/or melting point. The condensers are arranged apart and have parallel alternating upper and lower and/or front or back cooling plates (9, 10) which form a channel. The cooling plates are arranged approximately 3 cm from each other.
