PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE FORMING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing a photographic material by an easy method which minimizes a discharged liquid and reliably removes oxidizable organic chemicals such as a color developing agent and peroxides which may alter an image with the lapse of time. SOLUTION: In the method for forming a photographic image in an imagewise exposed photographic material including one or more silver halide emulsion layers, the material is developed with a developing solution containing a silver halide developing agent, a solution of a sulfite compound which reacts with the oxidized developing agent and prevents further progress of development is applied to the surface of the developed material and then a solution of an oxidizing agent which oxidizes the residual developing agent is applied to the surface of the developed material. The sulfite compound is present in an amount enough to react with all of the oxidized developing agent and the sulfite solution and the oxidizing agent solution are applied to the material by a method other than dipping in a tank.
