The present invention relates to a method for automatically milking a milking animal and to an automatic milking machine comprising identification means for identifying the animal to be milked, locating means for location of a selected teat, teat related means and a robot arm arranged for gripping and applying the teat related means to said selected teat. The time related information associated with the application and operation of the teat related means are stored in a data base in association with the identity of the milking animal. The selected teat and the time related information from a previous milking is used for determining in which order the teats are selected.
