A prefabricated flooring system comprising at least one structural beam 100 with at least one elongate cavity 111 within it and at least one conduit attached to the inside of the cavity providing a building service. The conduit(s) can be used for a variety of building services including power cabling 131, telecommunications 134, and gas/water pipes 132. Holes 153, 154 may be provided in the beam 100 to house terminal boxes or lighting 130. Acoustic flooring 140 may be located on the top surface of the beam 100. A plurality of beams 100 can be combined together to make a single structure such as a floor. The beam 100 may be made of composite material comprising a high aspect ratio reinforcing material encapsulated by and acting in concert with a polymeric matrix. |
