The locking bolt consists of a catch plate (4) fixed to the door and a lock assembly (9) mounted on the door frame. The catch plate is made from a material with a high melting point, such as steel or a copper alloy, and the lock assembly, made from a similar material, contains a guide wall (14) and a spring-loaded bolt (32, 33), held in its retracted position by a low melting point fusible member (40), e.g. of plastic. In the event of fire the fusible member melts, releasing the bolt so it engages with the catch plate and holds the fire door closed.
