A composition comprises a polymer of an alphachloro substituted ethylene having one or two alphachloro substituents, containing from 28.3 to 70.7 per cent of combined chlorine, and 5 to 60 parts of a compound of the formula <FORM:0772197/IV(a)/1> where R and R1 are the same or different members of the group consisting of phenyl, orthotoyl, metatolyl and paratolyl radicals per 100 parts of the resin, preferred compounds being 1,4-dibenzoyl butane, 1,4-di-(orthomethyl benzoyl) butane, 1,4-di-(metamethyl benzoyl) butane and 1,4-di(paramethyl benzoyl) butane. The resin may be polyvinyl chloride, a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, propionate or butyrate, diethyl or dibutyl maleate, fumarate or itaconate, methyl, ethyl or butyl acrylate, ethyl chloroacrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile or vinylidene chloride, or a copolymer of vinylidene chloride with methyl or ethyl acrylate or methyl methacrylate. The compositions become fused and flexible on heating and, when cooled to ordinary temperature, retain flexibility for a considerable period of time, but gradually change to tough, hard, non-extensible, seemingly unplasticised resins, and may be used in the production of hard, rigid articles such as tubes and pipes.
