An association has been made between polymorphisms in the human aromatase cytochrome P-450 gene CYP 19 and diseases associated with or caused by oestrogen deficiency, and in particular, osteoporosis. A test is described for detecting the presence of these polymorphisms in a human subject and thereby predicting likelihood of development of osteoporosis and other diseases caused by abnormal levels of oestrogen. |
