The device comprises a first operating component acting selectively on functional device for adjustment of the gear into neutral position or at least into transmitting position. A second operating component serves to set and disengage a parking brake. Devices are provided for locking the functional device by the second operating component in such a way that the functional device on setting the parking brake goes over to its neutral position, where it is maintained so long as the second operating component persists in its parking position. The functional device incorporates a rotatable transmission shaft (22) with at least one non-rotatable, radially extending transmission lever (30). Through the second operating component at least one locking lever (50) can be influenced. Between the locking lever and the transmission lever transmission devices (38,40) are arranged, which when the parking brake is set transmit forces from the locking lever to the transmission lever, in order to bring the transmission shaft into its neutral position or to hold it there.
