Class 60 A grinding machine comprises, an elongated boom extending laterally outwardly from a support on which it is mounted at one end for sliding movement along its longitudinal axis and rotation in opposite directions about such axis, a grinding wheel mounted on the boom for rotation about an axis extending transversely of the axis of the boom and so positioned upon the latter as to be spaced laterally outwardly from the support in all positions of the boom, and a prime mover on the support for rotating the grinding wheel through variable-speed transmission mechanism controlled by a shiftable member arranged to be set for drive of the grinding wheel at either of two speeds. The invention is described as applied to a machine identical with that described in Specifications 774,975 and 774,976.
