A method and apparatus for applying a resilient sleeve to an elongate member

A method for applying a resilient sleeve 2 to an elongate member comprises expanding the tube over a tubular carrier 3. The carrier is threaded over the elongate member and the resilient sleeve 2 is displaced off the carrier 3 and onto the elongate member. In an embodiment of the invention the elongate member is a cable and further the tubular carrier 3 has internal crimps 33 to form a stop, such that in use when the tubular carrier 3 is threaded onto the cable, the crimps 33 abut an enlargement in the cable's outer surface. This enlargement may be formed by the discontinuity between the cable's sheath and a stripped portion (fig. 4 not shown). The sleeve 2 may be made from silicon rubber and the tubular carrier 3 may be tin plated copper.
