PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file management system by which applications on plural personal computers connected through a network are always operated based on the same data file. SOLUTION: Among the plural personal computers connected through the network, each personal computer is provided with data file update exclusive control parts 103a, 103b and data file transfer parts 105a, 105b, the data file update exclusive control parts 103a, 103b manage rights of use of data files 104a, 104b existing on a prescribed personal computer by mutually communicating with the data file update exclusive control parts 103a, 103b of other personal computers and the data file transfer parts 105a, 105b transfer the updated data file 104a to other personal computers based on an instruction from an application 102a when the data files 104a, 104b of the present personal computer are updated by the application 102a.
