PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a drive device for a solid-state image pickup element, which is applicable for a CCD solid-state image pickup element having the same number of pixels, the same specifications for driving in a different size. SOLUTION: An output part 105 for outputting horizontal CCD drive pulses to a CCD solid-state image pickup element 102 is constituted by arranging (n) pieces (n being a plural) of three-state buffers 101 in parallel. Each buffer 101 is controlled so as to have a state according to the terminal load capacity of the CCD image pickup element 102 via a control line 103, thereby changing the drive capacity of the horizontal CCD drive pulses outputted from the output part 105. Thus, even if the CCD image pickup element 102 has a different size or different terminal load capacity, if the number of pixels and the drive specification are the same, the drive device is applicable.
