PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver with an adaptive array diversity, that uses a simple algorithm whose arithmetic amount is nearly equal to that by the LMS(least mean square) algorithm and whose weight is converged at a high- speed. SOLUTION: An antenna 1 receives a signal, and the received signal passes through a high frequency circuit 21, a band-pass filter 22, an automatic gain control(AGC) amplifier 23, a quasi-synchronous detector 25 to obtain a complex base-band signal of which the in-phase and quadrature components of the received signal respectively correspond to a real part and an imaginary part. A weight calculation section 30 uses a weight delayed by one symbol, the complex base-band signal, a complex conjugate error signal and a step size function to calculate the complex weight of each branch. The variable gain LMS (VLMS) algorithm is used for a weight update algorithm and adaptively revising a variable gain parameter and an initial value in the weight calculation can increase converging speed with an arithmetic amount nearly equal to that of the conventional LMS.
