PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data reproducing device capable of more reducing electric power consumption because a device dedicated to reproduce an MD is mostly a small portable type device and is used especially often outdoors, therefore, it is desired to extend the service life of a power source such as a battery. SOLUTION: When the data reproducing device is set to a power-saving mode by a system control circuit 17, only a channel L or a channel R is reproduced to increase the apparent capacity of memory 6 to twice its capacity and to reduce the capability of an ATRAC (R) decoding circuit 19 by half, thereby reducing the power consumption.
