PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic cash register and a control method thereof capable of reducing a generation of different cash calculation caused by a change payment error. SOLUTION: In the electronic cash register, a commodity code attached to a commodity is read out by a scanner 4 and the commodity code is referred to a commodity information stored in a PLU file 2. The number and the amount of the respective commodities are inputted by a key board 5. A POS control part 3 calculates a total amount of money of the commodity by the commodity information and the number and the amount of the commodities and simultaneously indicates the commodity information and the total amount of money on a display 1. The cash register is provided with a total amount of money judgment means 8 for judging whether or not the total amount of money exceeds a constant amount of money and changes a color of the total amount of money on the display 1 based on a result of the judgment. According to this, an attention is called on an operator of the electronic cash register.
