PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitting/receiving system for a portable telephone with which personal information can be transmitted between portable telephones. SOLUTION: In a portable telephone A, card data are selected out of its own card folder and these card data are transmitted from an infrared light emitting part while using infrared rays as a medium. In a portable telephone B, when the card data from the portable telephone A are received while using infrared rays as a medium, the card data are stored in a memory and a confirmation signal is transmitted from an infrared light emitting part while using infrared rays as a medium. In the control part of the portable telephone B, the card data are selected from the memo and transmitted from the infrared light emitting part while using infrared rays as a medium. In the control part of the portable telephone A, the card data from the portable telephone B are received through an infrared light receiving part thereof while using infrared rays as a medium and stored into the memory.
