PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save electricity for a Viterbi decoder. SOLUTION: This information reproducing device decodes and reproduces data by supplying a reproduced signal reproduced from a recording medium to a Viterbi decoder 13 being a maximum likelihood decoding means. A read clock DCK is supplied to the Viterbi decoder 13. A clock output control means 140 controls the read clock not to be supplied in the mode other than the read mode. Since it is stopped to supply the read clock to the Viterbi decoder in the mode other than the read mode, all the plural circuit systems composing the Viterbi decoder are in a stopped state of operation, therefore, electricity is not consumed in these circuit systems. Consequently, power consumption in this maximum likelihood decoder can drastically be reduced as compared with that when the maximum likelihood decoder is operated at all times.
