PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium drive assembly which simultaneously houses two kinds of media (for example, a CD and MD) and is capable of selectively recording/reproducing the one medium. SOLUTION: A drive unit 3, a holder unit 4 and a roller unit 30 are arranged within a main chassis 2 and are vertically moved by slide can plates 5 and 6 disposed on both side plates of a main chassis 2. The drive unit 3 has a supporting body 50 mounted with an optical pickup 6, a turntable 63 for the CD, a turntable 64 for the MD, etc., and a holder unit 4 has a holder 65 rotatably supporting a dummy table 81. In reproducing the CD 13, the supporting body 50 exists above the holder 65 and the CD 13 is chucked by a clamper 9 and the turntable 63 for the CD. In recording/reproducing the MD, the vertical relation between the drive unit 3 and the holder 65 is inverted, by which the turntable 64 for the MD is positioned below the holder 65 and the inserted CD 13 is held on the tummy table 81 above the holder 65.
