PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the reduction of time for the optimizing process of a recording power, etc., without sacrificing the accuracy. SOLUTION: The calibration for the optimizing operation is carried out in order of focus bias, reproducing power, recording power, and each optimum value is settled. By setting each of the optimum values in such order, the reproducing power is calibrated by the optimum focus bias obtained at the start so that the optimum reproducing power value is set, and the information at the time when the recording power is calibrated by using the set optimum reproducing power value, is reproducible. The processing time of the calibration is remarkably reduced than the time in the conventional practice, and further the accuracy of the set optimum values is increased, then the reliability is also increased.
