The microwave applicator comprises a source waveguide (1) with a convergence envelope (3) attached to its end. This brings the microwaves to a focus (16) on a target (8). A complementary second reflector (4) is mounted at the end of the microwave guide, so that waves emerging from the guide are reflected firstly by the face (10) of the second reflector, and then to one of the surface segments (12,13,14) of the convergence envelope (3). The surface segments of the envelope are concave, ensuring the convergence of the microwaves towards the focus (16). The focus may be beneath the surface of a block of concrete which is have its surface broken up.
