PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for position information provision which can provide accurate position information by using image information on things at a desired position to be known inside a large-scale underground mall, etc. SOLUTION: An image acquiring device 11 acquires an image of things at a desired spot to be retrieved, a retrieval request statement generating means 13 generates a retrieval request statement based upon the image information, and an information source 5 is retrieved with the retrieval request statement; and the retrieval result is presented to the retrieval request source together with its position information, a map of the position as a specific retrieval result selected at the retrieval request source out of presented retrieval results is retrieved from a map database 27 according to the position information, and the retrieved map is displayed by a map display means 29.
