The seat for a motor vehicle has a backrest (4a) connected to the squab (2a) by a pivot with two flanges having locking teeth operated by a control shaft (7a). The pivot lock actuation cam have a neutralization control (9) with a control lever (35). The neutralization lever which can rotate with the shaft to cooperate with an arcuate guide (31). The neutralization control is mounted concentrically outside of the pivot.
