PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To pick up the image of an object in a proper size with a communication device having an image transmission function. SOLUTION: In the communication device 1 such as a video telephone, the object is the face of a caller in most cases. Also, image pickup distance by a camera 14 can be estimated in advance. Therefore, an optimum image pickup magnification is stored in a memory 22 in advance, and a magnification-setting part 21 reads the image pickup magnification from the memory 22 when power is turned on and is given to a lens drive part 23. The lens drive part 23 obtains the focal distance of a zoom lens unit 141 based on the image pickup magnification obtained from the magnification-setting part 21 to drive the zoom lens 141a. As a result, immediately after the power is turned on, an image that is picked up via the zoom lens unit 141 includes the object image in an optimum size. |
