PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for music retrieval which can simplify user's operation and retrieval processing regarding music. SOLUTION: In a music database structuring part 1010, variation patterns of absolute scales of music are registered and a relative variation pattern as part of music is inputted as a query to a music retrieval device. A pattern retrieval processing part 1020 retrieves a range in the variation pattern of an absolute scale having the relative variation pattern by a continuous DP method.
