Reinforcing mesh (40) is located between flange (22) band (4); also between panel (30) and covering (16). The flange extends across the hinge region (32). Flange and band on one side, and panel and cover on the other, are held together by the mesh. An Independent claim is included for the method of manufacture in which band, cover and support are first injection-molded. The mesh is placed on the cover and the band zone, to correspond with the flange. They are fixed together. Preferred features: Band and cover are made as a single piece. The cover is delimited by a preferential rupture line at the rear surface of the band. The mesh has greater flexibility at low temperatures than the hinge. The mesh has a higher melting point than those of band and cover. The support (6) is fixed to the band and cover by welding. Mesh and fixing panel (30) extend over the whole surface of the cover and the fixing panel is held to the cover over its entire area. Distances between welding locations, equal mesh spacing. The band has integral location pegs matching mesh dimensions. Positioning recesses are made into the flange and the fixing panel. The support is one-piece. The equipment described forms part of a dash board. The mesh has a free section (48) fixed to the airbag support by an airbag unit (8) fastening. |
