PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a picture in the expression of moving picture from becoming blurred or obscure while suppressing the reduction of picture luminance in a hold type display device. SOLUTION: In this display device, a frame buffer 42 timesharing a frame displaying one picture into plural sub-frames, a damping signal generating circuit 52 generating a damping signal Sc2 by dividing an inputted luminance signal Sc with a prescribed damping coefficient F and a signal changeover circuit 53 which inputs a luminance signal Sc1 anterior to the division in preceding sub-frames in the frame and inputs the damping signal Sc2 posterior to the division in succeeding sub-frames are provided.
