INTEGRATED DUCT DIFFUSER

The invention provides a diffuser assembly (10) constructed of internal and external concentrically nested bowl-shaped shells (12, 14) for directing an outward flow of compressed air from a centrifugal compressor impeller (24) to an axially rearward diffused annular flow. One of the shells is formed with grooves (30) sepa-rated by seam edges (34) and the other shell includes a smooth surface of revolu-tion. The grooves (30) on the one shell are closed by the other shell when the two shells (12, 14) are nested together and the seam edges are secured to the smooth surface by fastening means thus defining individual diffuser ducts extending from the compressor impeller to the outer shell edges. The costs of production are reduced since tooling costs and manufacturing complexity are dramatically reduced when only two shell parts are required.
