The gear change lever engages with a control rod (3). The rod has a finger (1) which projects into a pocket (7) in the selector shaft (5). A spring loaded ball (29) in the gear case wall (17) engages with notches (25) in the control rod and a similar arrangement of ball (21) and notches (15) in the selector shaft hold them in position against the wall. The free play (P1,P2) between the finger and the sides of the pocket varies in accordance with an amplitude of the vibrations occurring with the gear system.
