OZONE REMOVING MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR PREPARING THE SAME

An ozone removing material, characterized in that it comprises an organic polymer base material comprised of polymer main chains having ion exchange groups as side chains and, carried thereon, a metal or metal oxide exhibiting the ability to decompose ozone; and a method for preparing the ozone removing material which comprises introducing polymer side chains having ion exchange groups onto polymer main chains in the organic polymer base material, contacting the resultant organic polymer material with a salt of a metal exhibiting the abiliry to decompose ozone, to allow the ion exchange group to carry an ion of the metal, and subjecting the resulting polymer product to oxidation or reduction, to thereby precipitate particles of the metal or the oxide of the metal on the organic polymer material. The ozone removing material is free from problems accompanying conventional ozone removing materials and can be used for decomposing and removing ozone effectively at a reduced cost.
