The invention relates to a brushless direct current motor comprising a synchronous motor, which is supplied with a direct current voltage as the input voltage for commutating the motor phases. The aim of the invention is to simply modify the speed of the synchronous motor without malfunctions. To achieve this, in a first speed range, a linear modification of the input voltage is carried out up to a speed threshold value and in a second speed range with a higher speed, which succeeds the first speed range, a vector modification of the input voltage is carried out. The invention also relates to a method for modifying the speed of a fan motor.
