The method for producing foamed building elements involves addition of physical and/or chemical foaming agents to a first plasticized, foamable base material whose temperature and pressure is adjusted so that the foaming agent does not react. It further involves addition of a second plasticized base material at a higher temperature to this mixture to produce a resultant mixture at a temperature producing at least a partial reaction of the foaming agent
