The folding mechanism, for a scooter, has two plates (31) at the leading end of the step board (30) each with two notches (311,312). A connecting tube (22) has a slit (23). The rod (34) of the quick-release unit passes through the two plates and the slit, to hold the connecting tube with a sliding swing movement and be linked to the handlebar tube (20). The connecting tube has two side projections (24) to engage the notches and position the tube in relation to the two plates.
