A variant Rad51 paralogous gene encoding a protein having an activity of enhancing the sensitivity of cells to a DNA damaging factor; a variant Rad51 paralogous peptide exhibiting the above activity; a transformant cell carryi ng the above gene; a method of screening a drug having a DNA damaging effect which comprises bringing a test substance into contact with the above transformed cell and evaluating the response of the cell; and a method of screening a DNA damage regulating agent which comprises bringing a test substance into contact with the transformed cell carrying the Rad51 paralogo us gene and evaluating the ability of homologous recombination repair. Thus, it becomes possible to screen a drug capable of enhancing the sensitivity of cells to an anticancer agent comprising a DNA damage factor or a drug having a DNA damaging effect which enables more efficacious therapy for cancer.
