A flexible load-transfer unit (18) has a rigid frame (10) which has support surfaces on the body. The frame consists of brackets (11,12) joined by means of a linkage (13). The horizontal bracket (11) swivels at the pivot points (17) and is joined to a pelvis-belt (16). The load support unit is swivel-mounted by means of a preferably textile linkage (14). Between the top end of the bracket and the linkage is a further rotary or swiveling linkage.
