PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing tetramethyldiphenyl-methane derivative having oxetane ring, synthesizable from easily available raw materials, and tetramethyldiphenylmethane derivative having oxetane ring. SOLUTION: This method for producing tetramethyldiphenylmethane derivative having oxetane ring represented by the following formula (1) [wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group] is characterized by reacting methanebisdimethylphenol with a 3-alkyl-3-chloromethyloxetane or 3-chloromethyloxetane in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkali metal hydride or an alkali metal. |
