<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a non-asbestos friction material which can give friction characteristics and a strength equivalent to those when ceramic fibers containing alumina components in large amounts, such as rock wools undesirable on working environment hygiene, are used, without using the ceramic fibers, and can control the rise of production cost. SOLUTION: This non-asbestos friction material comprising reinforcing fibers, a friction-adjusting material and a binder, characterized by compounding a soluble amorphous substance having a composition comprising SiO2 as a main component, 18 to 40 wt.% of one or more substance selected from CaO and MgO, <10 wt.% of one or more substances selected from Al2O3 and ZrO2, and <2 wt.% of one or more substances selected from Na2O, K2O, FeO and Fe2O3 as a friction material component. The soluble amorphous substance is preferably compounded in an amount of 1 to 30 wt.% based on the total amount of the friction material, and is preferably fibrous or granular.</p> |
