PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface modified layer structure capable of achieving functions excellent in self-lubrication and durability by allowing a self-lubricating film component to penetrate into a micro porous structure layer formed in the face part of a structural base material. SOLUTION: This surface modified structure having the self-lubricating function is characterized in that the surface modified structure is composed of the micro porous structure layer formed on the surface of a steel by a dry process, and the self-lubricating film formed on the micro porous layer by spattering or the like.
