PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high-level compatibility between the shortening of a starting time at the time of cold starting and the reduction of white smoke and black smoke at the time of starting. SOLUTION: A revolution number Ne of engine and a cooling water temperature Tw are read-in (Step 1) and it is judged whether or not an engine is during starting at present (Step 2) and whether or not the engine in the engine cold state of a lower temperature than a predetermined temperature #Tw (step 7). It is confirmed whether or not a combustion occurs in a cylinder at a prior cycle in Step 3 in the case of cold starting and a starting injection amount at the time of combustion is injected (Step 4) if the combustion occurs. In the case where combustion does not occur, a starting injection amount at the time of non-combustion, i.e., a relative mush amount is injected (Step 6). The injection amount can be optimized by an existence of actual combustion and a starting time can be shortened. Then, a discharge of white smoke and black smoke at the time of starting caused by an excess amount of fuel can be prevented.
