PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily achieve protection control for a compressor even when a power factor improving capacitor is provided on a power supply circuit to a compressor. SOLUTION: A compressor operation control device 30 of an air conditioner is adapted such that a control unit 13 for controlling a compressor by detecting a supply current supplied to a compressor 16 with a current detection circuit 31 monitors a current detected with the current detection circuit, and when the supply current exceeds a protection reference current value it interrupts the supply current for protective control for the compressor. In the compressor operation control device 30, the foregoing control unit, when a power factor improving capacitor 35 is disposed on the power supply circuit to the compressor and the supply current supplied to the compressor is reduced, reduces the protective reference current value by at least a reduction fraction of the supply current to execute protective control for the compressor.
